It Started with an App: Mystic Messenger Game

Origin story?

This is technically the origin story of how I became an Otome Game fan. I was newly hired by my company (my work is far from what I do in this blog). I was bored and my co-workers treated me like how your would react after getting a flu shot. So I decided to do something spontaneous.

I fished out my newly bought phone and looked for a gaming app, a chat-bot to be exact.  I was hoping to install a SimSimi app and chat away my boredom. (FYI: For those who don't know who or what is a SimSimi it was a famous hit chat-bot in the early 2000s.) Then, I came across this image.

I thought, Oh! cool looking chatbot! and downloaded the app. I soon found out that it wasn't any ordinary chat-bot but an otome novel.

In the game you, MC (but you can choose your character's name) was tricked into going into a condo unit by a hacker-slash-stalker who lures you through an app messenger. It turns out the unit you're in belongs to a party coordinator for a group called RFA. With the old party coordinator gone, the group asks you to be their new party coordinator while they help you with the hacker-stalker problem.

Story Routes and DLCs

Originally, player can choose only two stories: Casual and Deep. Cheritz.co, the game developer, eventually added DLCs, on for April Fools and one for Christmas. A Valentine's Day DLC was also added but after a few updates I found out that the Valentines DLC where relocated to After Endings.

V's Route was added. It's like a spin-off of the original story. This character doesn't have an After Ending yet but I hope it comes out soonest.

For Noobs:

This is what I discovered after playing Mystic Messenger for about a year or so now. I'm hoping this will help new players who have recently discovered this game.

1. Thou Shall Not Play with Time (on you phone)

I got into a jam when I changed my time while playing this game. Back story, my boss decided to change the bio-metric time a few minutes earlier and I was synchronizing my phones time with it. After that, I checked the Honey Budda Chips below my screen to claim a few more hearts but instead I got a warning that I committed an illegal act and that I need to log out of the game. I tried fixing it by restarting the game and the app but the warning was still their. So I prepared for the worst. Thankfully, my account hasn't been blocked by the game developers.

2. Play in Between Chat Time

The chat rooms in this game, though in military format, opens at a particular time of the day so your first impulse is to check every hour and see if a chat room has opened or else you won't be able to participate in that chat room. I recently found out that chat rooms don't close an hour after they open. So instead of waking up every hour I suggest you do this.

Let's say that Day 3's chat room schedules are as follows:

00:00 - 02:00 - 07:00

So their is a 2 hours interval from 00:00 (which is 12am in standard time) to 02:00 and a 5 hours internal from 02:00 to 07:00. Instead of waking up both on 12 am AND 2am in the morning to play the game you can wake up 15-30 minutes before 2am to participate in the 12 am chat room.

3. Keep ALL the hour glass

As much as possible, collect all the hearts and hour glasses you can get. Try not to give into the temptation of buying the whole day 'cause you can afford it. Instead of buying the whole day, you can use the hour glasses you collect for the After Endings. Most of them don't open unless you pay up.

Hour glass drops can be obtained if you get a new guest. You can do this by clicking the picture in the guest album. Click on the picture of the guest then click RFA comment. A conversation will pop-out with one of the members and then an hour glass will be given. Opening unique replies from the members and updating the game also gives you free hour glasses.

4. Visit these blogs as well!

I don't give out much details about the games but if you want thorough walkthroughs I suggest you visit Otome Obssesion, Otome Dreamworld and VG24/7 (very helpful during V's route). These helped me a lot.

A Call to Support

I've featured otome games that mostly get their pay through ads. This game doesn't have adds though but they don't totally manipulate their players into buying products to progress the game. I hope you support this company by buying a few hour glasses. They don't cost much.

His After-Hours Mistress

B@!%$ better not be messing with her.
